Midwestern Wildflower Meadows

Member's Meadow - Illinois acreage abloom with color.

Dear American Meadows:

We've been planting wildflowers on our northern Illinois property for over 20 years and this is the first year we've used American Meadows as our seed supplier. We were not disappointed. The results are outstanding ! This year we decided to plant our 2-acre pasture with your Midwest mix and added a few of our individual favorites.

I can't resist driving around the pasture at least twice a day with my camera. The color and variety is wonderful . I've taken  hundreds of pictures and I'm including some for you to see.  We're looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

Thank You for the Quality seeds and excellent variety you offer !!

………Larry Musil, Illinois

Obviously, Larry is a pro.  He's also not a wildflower "purist."  Just take a look at the top photo.  The reds and oranges lighting up this area of his property are...zinnas.  Some people don't consider zinnas wildflowers, but they're one of the flowers (like morning glory and a few others) we've included in our 80 individual species since so many of our wildflower gardeners have asked for them.

Larry's success goes to show that garden flowers such as zinnas do just fine in a wild meadow, along with their wild relatives like Queen Anne's lace, orange cosmos, and black-eyed susans.  Obviously, that beautiful swallowtail butterfly in the photo at right agrees.

Larry's also an excellent photographer.  The bottom photo is a striking "Bug's-eye View" inside a healthy, growing summer wildflower meadow.  You can almost hear the bees buzzing among the blue cornflowers, cosmos and poppies.
