One of our favorite No. American natives is Blazing Star, also called "Gayfeather." It's a beauty of the Great Plains, and now a favorite with florists. The common wild form is purple, but there is also white. With this new combo, you get both. The roots are bulb-like.

Blazing Star prefers loose, gritty fast-draining soil and hot blazing sun. No shade! No mushy loam.
