From large to small, the perennial sedums relight garden fires for great color during the fall.
This is a large group of perennial plants with one famous star--the super-popular Perennial, Sedum "Autumn Joy", shown with it's pinkish-orangy flower heads beside the chair in the photo at right. (Sorry, this spring's supply of Sedum Autumn Joy is SOLD OUT.)
Sometimes called Stonecrop, these perennial plants enjoy gritty, fast-draining soil, and must have full hot sun. They're really desert plants, so give them sharp drainage. (The group is often referred to as "Succulents" because of their thickened, moisture-retentive leaves.)
Once sedums are established, you've assured yourself of loads of perennial interest for the later months when most garden flowers are gone.
