Whether you call it "Blazing Star" or "Gayfeather," you'll love this tough native plant, just like other gardeners do, along with florists, hummingbirds and butterflies. Liatris is one of the great beauties of the American plains, and grows wild all the way from Canada to Mexico. Today, it's a big favorite of florists for dramatic arrangements. The folilage is grass-like, forming a fountain from which the flower spikes arise. The roots are bulb-like and easy to grow. But remember, this plant is from the wide open spaces. It needs full sun and fast-draining soil. No loamy mush! (We also sell Liatris seeds in our Wildflower Seed Department.)
