Invite the "Queens of the Shade" into your garden.
Once the garden treasures of the very rich, camellia-flowered begonias are now widely available and quite easy to grow. Our bulb sale includes the favorite solid colors plus the treasured "picotee" bicolors.
The roots are not true bulbs, as the name tells you. Tuberous begonia roots are, obviously, tubers. These beauties require shade and heavy feeding, so most people grow them in patio pots, windowboxes, or other places where you can tend them carefully. They're also perfectly happy in the ground in shady areas as long as the soil is rich and well-watered. The blooms can reach a spectacular 5 or 6" across, on short plants that are rarely over a foot tall. Many gardeners start the plants inside in pots, and they can be taken in and enjoyed as houseplants when frost threatens in the fall.
