Grow this world-famous wildflower as a novelty, but don’t expect the natural spendor Texas enjoys. These flowers, coupled with a few other famous species, make the Texas spring truly one of the world’s top natural wildflower shows. Away from home, bluebonnets are notoriously picky and slow to perform. By the way, officially, several lupine species are called “Texas Bluebonnet” and qualify as the Texas state flower; however, this is the most popular one. For surefire lupine meadow color, choose one of the easier non-bluebonnet lupine species, such as L. succulentus.
