It's millions of peoples' favorite flower the world over--the Cornflower, or "Bachelor's Button." It's beautiful in the garden, stunning in a vase, and the petals are even edible, great for adding fresh color to frosting on cakes and mixed into salads. Now the seeds for the multicolored mix called "Polka Dot" are being grown organically, which is important to many gardeners, and all cooks.

Botanical Name: Centaurea cyanus

Common Name: Cornflower or Bachelor Button

Type: Annual. Lives just one year. Grows quickly, blooms heavily, dies with first frost. Can regrow following spring if seed falls on bare ground.

Color: Shades of blue, pink, white, & lavender

Height: 12-24" tall

Bloom Time: Days to germinate: 7-14 depending on soil and weather condtions. Days to maturity: 85-95. (Early summer until frost)

Flower: Fluffy button like flowers

Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade

Soil Preferences: Adaptable, prefers poor soil.

Moisture Requirements: Average moisture, well drained.

Where To Grow It: All regions of North America. Prohibited in NC
