Everybody's favorite woodland wildflower, this one is a must in any shady garden. As many gardeners know, the violets expel many seeds after their bloom, and if they are in a perennial garden or other formal area, they can become a solid spreading mat. In woodland gardens, this is usually desirable. Just a few plants will seed themselves into quite a patch in just a couple of years. And then, even after their bloom, the glossy green groundcover formed by their leaves is attractive.
