USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold-hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Bearded Iris Alert

Time is running out.  Our big Bearded Irises are on sale at 50% OFF for only one more week.  The discount falls to just 35% afer that, so click in and save now.  The selection this year is more beautiful than ever and these are from the best growers in the US, all guaranteed.  Remember, bearded irises ship only one time a year, and that's in August.  It's because this type of iris has to be dug after bloom, putting them in their own category.  I know it's confusing, but here is a quick reference on types of irises.  Siberian, Louisiana, and Japanese irises are sold with our perennials each spring. They're shipping right now at 40% Off along with all the other perennials--all at Clearance Sale Prices while they last.  Dutch Iris are the ones that grow from tulip-like bulbs, and they're in the Fall Bulb Section right now at 50% off.
