To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold-hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
The amount of seed you should plant depends on the method of seeding and type of flower display you want. Most of our customers want maximum blooms:

Method of Planting:
One pound covers:
|Hydroseeding||500 sq. ft.|
|Slit Seeding||1000 sq. ft.|
|Hand Seeding - Dense coverage||1000 sq. ft.|
|Hand Seeding - Meadow Look||2,000 sq. ft.|
|(1 acre = 43,000 sq.ft.)|
For Larger Plantings: If you have a large site, from 1/2 acre to several acres, your planting rate may be affected by land conditions. If you have heavy weeds on the site now, some erosion, generally poor soil, or other land problems, additional seed is usually the most economical solution, since installation of a large planting usually costs more than the seed. If your site does have these problems and you want full coverage, stick to the "dense" or better coverage rate.
