Description
Mayan Mask’s huge, upright leaves create a unique statement. Truly stunning in any sunny spot.

This will be the biggest thing in your garden – Maybe even the biggest in the neighborhood! The Upright Elephant Ear quickly shoots up big, green spears that unfurl into some of the largest leaves in the plant kingdom. In good soil, the leaves can reach 4 or even 5 feet across. Just one big bulb will create a large leafy plant, like a tropical fountain of green.

Gardeners love this exotic favorite as a screen or as a background for smaller plants and flowers. Always a highlight in any garden, and very easy to grow and care for.

Comments about Upright Elephant Ear Mayan Mask:

Bought 2 Spring 2013, put 1 in yard, kept 1 in house. The 1 in the yard comes back every summer and does well, considering that it's now fighting for space among other plants. The one I inadvertently kept in the house the entire 2 years surprised us all with multiple huge leavaes and bright color the second year, late Summer and early Winter of 2014. This plant seems to appreciate a consistent temperature and amount of water, rather than the terrible heat our Charleston, SC summer days, and fighting for water, (like the 1 outside) It might have done better in a slightly shadier location. But it's a beautiful plant

  • Unique

Cons

  • Slow Grower
  • Smaller Then We Thought

Best Uses

Comments about Upright Elephant Ear Mayan Mask:

I put the plant in a large pot in partial shade. It looks very pretty now, but it took a long time to take off. We are hoping to winter them and re-plant in the fall. I live in southern New England, and we had a cool summer, but I did expect a larger more impressive plant.

Comments about Upright Elephant Ear Mayan Mask:

These bulbs are of good quality. They are slow to establish, but make a lovely background plant for lower-growing plants. Good as a natural screen. Also good in large pots on a patio or entry. Be patient and you will be rewarded with a beautiful plant.
