How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Some perennials are shipped as potted plants, some as perennial roots packed in peat. The ‘Plant Information’ section describes how that item will ship. All perennials and fall-planted bulbs are packaged to withstand shipping and are fully-guaranteed. Please open upon receipt and follow the instructions included.
Perennials and fall-planted bulbs are shipped at the proper planting time for your Growing Zone. Perennial and fall-planted bulb orders will arrive separately from seeds. If your order requires more than one shipment and all items are shipping to the same address, there is no additional shipping charge. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (802) 227-7200 or contact us by email or chat.

"This is probably the most beautiful Dinnerplate dahlia I've ever planted. Absolutely stunning color, size and petal shape! I planted 2 tubers of the Otto's Thrill and they both grew strong and had large blooms. One had the lighter yellow center with vibrant pink, and the other was mostly vibrant pink but both were gorgeous. I will definitely be planting more Otto's Thrill every summer in the future! Highly recommend. Attaching photos."
"I love to have fresh flowers on the table."
"The pinkest, most girly, wonderful Dahlia variety I've ever grown. So many ruffles! The cut blooms last a long time. The plant took longer to grow full size than I expected - but I think that may have been my fault as I never provided it extra water. Will defintely buy more next year!"
"This was a showstopper for my garden this year. There were at least three open flowers on the plant at all times. While I did love it, the stems were extremely short and couldn't be used for many arrangements. I may experiment next year to see how I can lengthen them. Also makes a fantastic dried flower. I recall the tubers taking a long time to wake up. When they arrived I barely saw any visible eyes but I had a success rate of about 4 out of 5 tubers."
"I bought it in the winter, and now they've grown to the full size! It is just beautiful and so huge! I am sooo satisfied with my purchase!"
"Really lovely color. More attractive than the pictures. Only got 4 stars because only 2 of 3 tubers were viable."
"I planted them in full sun and followed the instructions exactly. All 3 plants produce big and beautiful blooms. Very happy with the purchase. I'm hoping they will come back next year like other dahlia plant I got from American Meadows."
"So far just one of the plants is flowering (I expect the others to follow soon), and the flowers are stunning. Once it got started it's been making a lot of buds, and it's such a treat when each one opens. There's a touch of yellow, especially in the outer petals, that I hadn't noticed in the pictures, but it's really nice. Definitely my favorite dahlia of this year!"
"Absolutely beautiful plant. Prolific bloomer with a very sturdy stem. Exceeded my expectations."
"The Dahlias are looking beautiful just like the image on AM. They are close to a tree so do not receive a lot of sunlight yet they seem to bloom just fine. I planted them in the beginning of April , it's now the end of July. The summer has not been to hot, avg days are 80 deg. so it may help to have some shade otherwise the color may not be as vibrant or fade sooner. They are very tall and stand out, they need support to keep them up straight. I get compliments all the time."
