Description
Growing Fall-Flowering Crocus and Colchicum These two groups of bulbs are almost like magic. You plant them in late summer, and they bloom almost immediately. We ship them, along with Bearded Irises, in August, earlier than other fall bulbs, with instructions to plant right away. They're great in the ground or in patio pots---anywhere you want to add jewel-like color for your fall garden. In just days, you'll see them poking up through the ground, and before you know it they're in bloom, just when everything else in your garden is almost finished! It's a wonderful finale of color that just won't happen without these beauties.

If you've never planted them before, you'll find the regular 'fall-flowering crocus', including C. sativus,, the saffron crocus, much like spring bloomers (about 4-5 inches tall). Colchicums are different, since every bulb (they're larger than the regular crocus bulbs) produces a whole bouquet of flowers. One Colchicum bulb will send up between 5 and 10 stems, and each one will soon bear a flower.

So plant either or both, and enjoy some brilliant spring color in your garden when you need it the most--in fall!'

Comments about American Meadows Colchicum Bulbs Giant:

The Colchicum Bulbs Giant is a terrific addition to the autumn garden. Its blooms add visual constrast to autumn crocus and play nicely against re-blooming iris.

Comments about American Meadows Colchicum Bulbs Giant:

The bulbs were givien to me as heirlooms from my Grandma's garden. I had no idea they would be such a delight! When the leaves came up, in the spring, I had forgotten that I'd planted them and I thought the leaves were "Skunk Cabbages"! I started to pull them up and a beautiful, large, bulb came up and then it dawned on me what it was I was messing with! Yes. The leaves are pretty homely, but when the blooms come up, in the fall, they MORE than make up for any temporary homelyness! They are very hardy and easy to care for! The gophers don't seem to bother them at all! I love them!

It is very hardy. It just like what it is intruduced as a product. The flowers bloom in the fall none stop until the end of fall. We had one bulb last year. Now it growed 3 out this spring. It will be beautiful in the fall again. We are going to seperate them in 2 more different areas around our house. Very easy to plant and no care really needed. It blooms quickly before you noticed it.

Comments about American Meadows Colchicum Bulbs Giant:

I had never even seen fall crocuses before, but was trying to keep some color later in the year here in warm Virginia. This plant is so cool - big blossoms which repeat again and again. It is surprising to a newbie because the flowers just pop out of nowhere in the fall - no leaves! The leaves are out now and they are nothing like normal crocus leaves, a bit unattractive. I will probably put spring-bloomers around it for next year.

Grew indoors. Nice bloom. Bought this and the "Water Lily" variety. This "traditional" look is the better of the two. Once the blooms were spent, I moved them to the garden.
