Plant Information

This is the crocus everyone knows and loves. The bright colors, plus the popular striped crocus, guarantee a wonderful array of color, especially against the emerald green of a lawn in early spring.

Planting in the lawn is simple, since the bulbs are so small, and the effect in spring is a real treat. The more you plant, the better it will look. One caveat: If you plant in the lawn, wait 6 weeks after flowers bloom to mow.

I planted 100 of these little flowers in my lawn last autumn. After watching squirrels dig up my lawn for months to steal the corms, I was worried they'd all been eaten. At least 50 survived the great squirrel attack and popped up by color (yellow, then purple. White, then striped) over the last few weeks. They are bright little spots of color naturalized into my lawn. Every morning there are a few new buds. Several neighbors have stopped by to ask about them. They are just beautiful!

This autumn I will plant another 100 and maybe add a little talcum powder to see if that deters the squirrels.

Didn't live up to my expectations

Out of the 50 bulbs, only 20 flowers bloomed, there were all 4 colors bloomed. The flowers only lasted for a couple of days. These flowers were a disappointment.

I have no idea how many came up, because I naturalized in small spots all around the house using many different orientations and light exposures. I do know that a very good percentage came up. They began blooming in early February on the south side and bloomed last on the north side, providing lots of color for several weeks. They also beat everything else. I'm looking forward to planting more this fall and seeing them again next spring.

I planted about 100 bulbs in my front garden last fall and they are all coming up beautifully this spring. They are a lovely mix of colors. They are doing well despite ups and downs in the temperature. A nice sign of spring!

I have these in all of my beds planted on the borders. Early spring blooms that last at least a month or longer. Yellow flowers bloom first followed by purple a week or so later then the bi-color blooms last.
Just plant and no maintenance at all. Have bought these over the years and keep adding them every year. The price for 50 bulbs is one of the lowest around the internet. They are quality, healthy bulbs that come back every year.

Once planted the work is done. Early blooming bulbs. Yellow bulbs bloom first followed by white, purple and bi color bulbs. Perfect price, easy to plant.
If you have heavy deer traffic in your area, THESE ARE NOT DEER PROOF. Will need to spray to keep deer away from. Other than that, I will be ordering these every year to continue to add color to the yard in the early Spring.

Comments about American Meadows Dutch Crocus Bulbs Mix:

This is a great color mix. Don't hide them behind other plants or tall bulbs, since they're short. They put on good show. They're good with red tulips and daffodils.

                                USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
