Plant Information

Our Tequila Sunrise Mix is an innovative combo of colors that are both 'hot' and 'cool.' You get butter yellow, hot orange, and cool deep purple for a color combo that will amaze everybody--especially your neighbors!

Planting Hyacinths: Daffodils may be the symbol of spring. Tulips add dramatic color. But its the hyacinths that bring the perfume. One of the most powerfully fragranced blooms in the flower kingdom is the justly famous Dutch hyacinth--the result of hundreds of years of hybridizing a lovely little wildflower from Turkey--now an upright torch of incredible color and unmatched perfume.

Plant your hyacinth bulbs close together for a dramatic display, either in groups of one color or as a rainbow of several shades. Many gardeners think they look best in close groups of 3, 5 or more. Hyacinths must have good drainage, so be sure to plant them where they'll never be in standing water. With some shade, the flowers will last longer than in full sun. And next spring, don't forget to stop and smell the hyacinths!

Comments about American Meadows Hyacinth Bulbs Tequila Sunrise Mix:

I would not call them orange . . . I would call them a pink made from dirty water . . . not very brilliant at all. And it would have been helpful had the bulbs been sorted and labeled by color.

I potted these bulbs up and forced them. All 3 colors bloomed at the same time. The blooms were large, consistent and beautiful.

Comments about American Meadows Hyacinth Bulbs Tequila Sunrise Mix:

These were the first hyacinth bulbs I tried growing and they did very well. The colors did differ a little in real life from the photo on this site. The orange color flowers we much more pink than orange, which I would rather have had. The pale ones are almost white in real life and the purple is a bit deeper and darker. Over all though I'm happy with them and they are very beautiful and fragrant.I'm a big fan of indoor forcing bulbs since I have a small garden. I planted them in medium sized pots indoors but probably should have used smaller pots since they grew over a foot tall! Normally they're MUCH smaller but they really liked the warm indoors. Other bulbs I've grown via forcing tend to be much smaller when outdoors.Note to other new hyacinth bulb buyers: I was unaware that hyacinth bulbs have a natural dust on them that is a skin irritant. Shipping can make the dust go EVERYWHERE in the box, so be careful and wear gloves, or hold just the paper label, when you pull them out. I just dumped the contents of the box out, holding the bulb bags in my bare hands, and the dust flew unseen all over me. I itched so badly I had to take a shower immediately! The dust comes off easily with water and didn't leave any rash, despite how much it itched, so it's not so bad.

            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
