This is sort of pink spider lily, loved by all who grow it. Planted in spring, it blooms for you in the fall, when most other flowers are finished. Describing this South African beauty, one English writer says each stem opens 10 or 12 flowers with petals that are curled like gift ribbons.' The name Nerine is pronounced na-reen'-ee.

There are several South African native species of this bulb, a close relative of the Crinum Lily and the Amaryllis. In Europe, this one is sometimes called Jersey Lily, since it is associated with the famous English actress. Lily Langtry, who was born in Jersey..

Nerines like plenty of sun and not much (if any) fertilizer. Remember, South African bulbs are usually used to gritty, fast-draining soils.'

Comments about American Meadows Nerine Lily Bulbs:

I'm not sure if I like these or not - they haven't bloomed yet. However, everything is late this year due to our extended 'cool' spring - VERY unusual weather for us here in southeast Texas! I'm watching...

Comments about American Meadows Nerine Lily Bulbs:

It came as a root and I forgot where I planted it. It was a nice surprise when it popped out beautiful pink flowers at a time when all other plants were in dorment stage. It did need stake support but maybe it will be stronger in its second year.

              USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

              • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
              • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
