Description
Here's one of the brightest bulb flowers of them all, a famous Alan Bloom hybrid of a South African species. Mass them in your border, and you'll have a brilliant show of bright red in no time. Crocosmias are wildflowers in South Africa, and there are many species. This hybrid is famous for fiery red color. (Montbretias are actually the result of crossing two Crocosmias.)

As a general rule, remember when planting South African bulbs, that these flowers are used to hot sun and gritty, fast-draining soil.'

For two years in a row I've ordered and received crocosmia "lucifer" corms from American Meadows. I've followed planting directions closely. Last year I ordered 5 and this year I ordered two packs, or 10 corm altogether. NOT A SINGLE ONE HAS EVEN COME UP. Last year when none of the 5 came up I ordered some from a seller in Holland. 4 of 5 came up, but the planting date was too late by then, and they only got about 10 inches high, and then did not survive the winter. I'll not order again from American Meadows.

I purchased these on a sale of buy 10 get 10 free. None came up. They were "replaced" in that since I only paid for 10, 10 would be replaced. Even though I had 20 originally. Then only two came up and were the wrong colour. NOT LUCIFER RED, but an orange, like the regular ones you always see. Then, this year, NONE came up. They are all gone. This is an easy corm to grow in my area. They are common and most yards have them, so I found it very odd that they did not come back. I was hoping at least one of them would actually be the Lucifer RED. We will never know. I am out my money AND my plants.

Only two of the corms bloomed. They were not the Lucifer RED. They were a darker orange than the regular Crocosmias. The worst part is that they did not come back this year. Crocosmias are sooo easy to grow here. I was shocked that they did not come back. VERY disappointing. This is not the first let down from this company. Not sure about future purchases.

I purchased 20 of these bulbs last year and none of them came up. I got replacements, thank you American Meadows, and put them in this Spring. ONLY TWO out of 20 came up! I have grown these in California with great success, but would not recommend them to anyone living in the South!

                        I am deeply disappointed.

I was really excited about this plant, its size, its flowers, the fact that it is perennial in my climate. But the planting instructions insisted on a pretty deep planting, which I observed. When none of the bulbs came up a month later, I dug down and found a couple and replanted them closer to the surface. A couple finally came up, but have yet to flower. They probably missed the right season. I would like to try them again, I will just plant using my own judgement.

I have read the negative comments and did not have this experience. I ordered 8 packs and all happily grew for me. I kept the soil moist in an area the is mostly sunny. Have yet to bloom.
