I live on an impaired lake and asked for help planting a buffer zone(shoreline restoration) from Mike at customer service. He set me up with the appropriate mixes both annual and perennial's.The results were amazing the first year. The Mn. pollution agency came out after I had written an article on my succes and added photos, and they did an interview and video for there agency website. I could not be more pleased and am excited for spring to see it grow again.

I started my fourth wildflower garden this year. I prepared it in fall of 2010. I added California Poppy and Cosmos mix to it. It was wonderful this year! The only drawback was too many sunflowers came up we tore out about 1/3 of them, but the bed was overwhelmed by sunflowers. I would suggest less sunflower seeds in the mix. Overall, I was once again satisfied.

Comments about American Meadows Proven Wildflower Seed Mix for the Midwest - 1/4 LB:

Last year I decided to add some plants around a fire pit in the middle of our yard. I removed quite a bit of grass and sowed a large area behind the pit with this mix in fall. After a very strange winter, I was concerned with how well they would come up but now in may they are beautiful! It seems that the warm weather that caused germination followed by several inches of snow killed some of the species but the entire area is full of what survived and reseeding is no big deal. Usually we don't see butterflies or bees until June at least but with california poppies, baby blue eyes, baby's breath, siberian wallflower and cornflower all in bloom there have been more than ever! Every day there seems to be another plant filling with flower buds and I just can't wait to see the season progress and then to see the perennials flower next year!

I just got some large areas of wildflowers started this year. The initial year of annuals was very lovely, particularly early on. I'm hopeful that the perennials will kick in next year and make it more beautiful for a sustained period of time.

We had a dry start up to our season so it took a long time to see the germination. Planted in May, seemed it's best in September but we'll frost out. Many months . I hope to see the perrenials. It was nice once we saw them.I saw flowers that I never saw before.

This Spring I ripped out a section of the back lawn to put in mid-western wild flowers. The Spring was very wet and I did not get the seed in the ground until well into June, but within a few weeks we had seedlings. By early July we had a few types of flowers, and then every few days, new varieties burst into bloom. Since the middle of July we have had a riot of color and enjoyed it greatly, as do a variety of birds (including a humming bird), rabbits, chip monks, squirrels, and butterflies. We will do this again next year!

These seeds took off like crazy and formed a beautiful union. I am so looking forward to the perennials next summer. I seeded a berm and a side of a fence and I feel I seeded way too much, so I will ease up on the seeds next season.

Sometimes it is hard to know what is a weed and what is a flower until it blooms. Then again, one woman's weed is another's flower! I have found that fall seeding is the best in my Zone 5.

I bought the Midwest blend, I have very sandy and dry conditions, so I thought you have a blend for that, I would give that a try for next spring.

I did not have a good experience this year with my wild flowers. Last year they were beautiful and received many postitive comments. This year the weeds took over and I have had to mow them already. I plan to try again next year. I am going to "Roundup the area" and rototil the area this fall and plant in the spring. A mistake I may have made was that I maybe tilled to deep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a place in northern wisconson. I took an area and tilled it up, and planted wildflowers. They are just beautiful. One of my buddies said that if he was graduating from high school, he would want his class pictures taken there. That was quite a compliment, and I'm just getting going. I'm planting more this fall!! I would like to try your dry condition mix.

Comments about American Meadows Proven Wildflower Seed Mix for the Midwest - 1/4 LB:

I decided after 10 years of mowing, watering, and fertilizing my front lawn (just to have moles destroy my hard work), it was time for a change. I installed a decent sized pond (18x25) to remove some of the lawn, but that wasn't going to have the effect that I wanted. So, I also designed a winding wildflower meadow to remove another 50% of the lawn and provide a nice surrounding for the pond. I mixed in some mulch walking trails and hoped for the best. At first, I was very nervous since I had basically destroyed a beautiful lawn and my entire summer landscaping was dependent upon the success of the wildflowers. I had bought many times before from American Meadows, but the nervousness was still there. I planted the first mix in mid May, and the low grow mixture took off and did very well. My proven formula for the midwest was planted about a week later in a different section of the design and it was a bit slow to take off. I was worried that I may have compressed the seed too deep when planting. But, I'm very happy to say that the mixture took off like a rocket a few weeks after planting and is now a very nice meadow. It will only get better as the perennials bloom in year two and the annuals lay down new seed over the fall. I've had many compliments from neighbors. The front yard is night and day from a year ago. What a great low maintenance way to go. It's so cool seeing the different flowers blooming throughout the year. Lots of bees and a few butterflies frequent the gardens. With the pond in the middle, I have my own sanctuary, and unlike a back yard one, this one can be shared by those who pass by my house. Great Product American Meadows!

I planted this midwest wildflower seed mixture beside a new construction home. in an area I did not want to bother with mowing. The results have been amazing. Colorful, fragrant, easy to grow, I can't say enough good things. The floral display just seems to get better each season. I live in southwestern Michigan and this seed mix has proved hardy and prolific, producing a meadow that is an asset to the property and the topic of conversation when my husband and I entertain outside. I have happily recommended this product to friends in this area. Thanks so much!

I purchased several brands of seed before buying from American Meadows and had no success. I use more than the instructions indicate. I have found that if I do, I have fewer weeds when starting a new bed. I now have three HUGE beds and will start a fourth this fall.

I have a hillside that was very difficult to mow. I turned it into a wildflower area. Because erosion was a large concern, I chose not to kill off the grass that was there already. This made it harder for the seed to get established, but also added a nice variety that appeared to attract the wildlife.
I cut the grass as short as the mower would allow, and then de-thatched the area. After mixing the seed with sand and spreading it, I lightly covered it with a local product called ComTil. (This is a sewage sludge and wood chip compost.) The seed did pretty well, but some areas were out competed by the grass. (I expected this, and plan to put down some more.)
I was very happy with the diversity in the mix, and plan to use it again!

Pure seed that produced beautiful flowers the first year. This spring there are flowers sprouting everywhere. Excellent seed that I planted into a sandy hill, watered, and watched grow and bloom all summer. Mowed as suggested to scatter the seed after frost, and now am anxiously awaiting the perennials as well as the reseeded annuals from last year.

The most exciting thing I found out about wildflowers was how butterflys were attracted to the patch. The flowers also crowded the weeds out easily in it's first year. Can't wait until the second year for perenials to take over.

I used the product in my yard and the annuals looked great last year. However, I did not find any perennials that germinated. AT this point, some things are coming up in the area but nothing from the mix - thistle and ground cherry. The ground cherry is great, but it was there before the planting last year. I don't know if the deer, etc ate all the seed, but not even cosmos is coming up. I left everything to go to seed and only mowed in the spring. I have had good luck with self-seeders in the past and maybe things will start to germinate soon. I had expected to only reseed about every 3 years. It's still early so maybe I will be surprised. The perennials were a little disappointing. I would recommend this to a friend with reservations. Just because I didn't have the best luck, doesn't mean others won't.

Comments about American Meadows Proven Wildflower Seed Mix for the Midwest - 1/4 LB:

I planted the seeds in window boxes and I brought them inside. I keep them in the sun and warm water them daily. It has been five days and in all six containters seeds are sprouting like crazy. I can hardly wait to see the flowers. I will put the boxes outside once the frost season is over.
