With this mixture, you'll know you're planting some of the our most treasured prairie wildflowers. Unlike the northeast, the midwest was always a combination of woodland and open grassland, thus both annual and perennial wildflowers are native to the region. First year annual color with this mix features plains coreopsis, brilliant Indian Blanket, prairie aster, and annual black-eyed susan. Perennials and biennials include all the famous midwestern native beauties: Not only purple coneflower but pale coneflower as well, plus prairie blazing star, butterfly weed, lupine, standing cypress, no less than three Rudbeckias (Black-eyed Susan species) and many more.

This mixture contains 21 wildflowers, 4 annuals for first-year color, plus 17 perennials or biennials for second and successive years' bloom.

We bought this seed mix because we were looking for some native wildflowers to fill in some awkward spots in our yard. In the first year, this seed mix transformed these dead areas into a beautiful addition to our landscaping. We got lots of compliments from neighbors. Now that it's spring of the second year, the flowers are coming back in force - in fact, we'll probably end up transplanting some of the returning plants into other areas of our yard that need help!

Comments about American Meadows Native Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I live in northern Wisconsin and have surrounded my home with Wildflower gardens. I would never use seeds from any other supplier. American meadows are the best. Pure seeds without any grasses. I love them and recommend them to all my friends. My gardens get better every year.

Comments about American Meadows Native Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I have asthma and allergies, which prevent me from mowing grass. I had all the grass ripped out in the front yard and spread this prairie mix. It's been blooming since the beginning of July and I'm still getting new flowers coming out in mid-August. I love it and so do (most of) my neighbors. The ones who don't like it are hide-bound and have no idea what a prairie is supposed to look like. Looks great here in the Chicago area. I absolutely love it!

I used these seeds in two different locals (areas where other natie plants are present). Despite adequate rain fall, the seeds never produced any plants. I did not have access to water, though, so relied on the seeds and nature to produce.

Love the mix, but had a Velvet Weed problem. Never seen Velvet Weed in the 16 years I have lived here. Not sure where they came from but they only grew were I planted the seed mix. I would still use this mix again. Beats anything you could by from a big box store.

Our neighborhood association uses this mix in conjunction with the Native Midwest Wildflower Mix to provide long-lasting color in our urban parks. We sow these seeds closest to the playground equipment because children who enjoy flower picking as a means of discovery can do so without any truly noticable impact. The kids can just never keep up with these flowering powerhouse seeds!

I mixed this wildflower mix with some native grass seed that I planted this spring. Dispite very heavy spring rains and a summer drought I got great seed germination and have had flowers all summer and fall.

Comments about American Meadows Native Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I used the wildflower mix in with the prairie grass mix to make a beautiful meadow next to our home. The birds and wildlife love it. I cut wild flowers out of it all last year for us to enjoy in our house,

This product was great! It grew very well the first year and came back the following year looking tremendous. I would buy this product again if I needed to.

                                      USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                      • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                      • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
