I live on an impaired lake and asked for help planting a buffer zone(shoreline restoration) from Mike at customer service. He set me up with the appropriate mixes both annual and perennial's.The results were amazing the first year. The Mn. pollution agency came out after I had written an article on my succes and added photos, and they did an interview and video for there agency website. I could not be more pleased and am excited for spring to see it grow again.

I have rather large area in the back of my lawn that has been left to grow natural over the past decade or so. This year, I decided it would be nice to have wild flowers growing in this area. I moved the area after the frost last winter and rented a roto-tiller to break up the soil and existing weeds. I moistened the soil and spread the seeds somewhat evenly. To my disappointment, the old weeds had a firm grip on the area and over grew the area. You can barely see signs of the wildflowers. I must admit that I think is a result of operator error. I purchased more seeds and plan on trying it again next year. Hopefully I have better results.

Comments about American Meadows Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I have an area of what used to be lawn that was separated enough from the actual yard I often put away the lawn tractor and then remembered to mow it. I decided since it was out of sight out of mind I should make it an attraction. over a 3 year period I tilled it up in 1/3 increments and then planted that area with the Midwest wildflower seed. last year was year 3 and the results are exactly what I hoped for and that area (approx 120' x 50') now attracts a lot of attention. I use it as a backdrop for portrait photos and every neighbor always comments on how great it looks. There seems to be multiple plants blooming all summer and into the fall with bright colors.

I ordered 25 lbs of this mix to seed an almost 2 acre field that had been tilled for other purposes. Soil is clay, very wet in places and hilly. Was so pleased with the results that I ordered an additional 25 lbs to overseer in early September for spots with less coverage. Wasn't able to do any proper pre-seeding work due to the nature of the field. In spite of this, my Meadow is fabulous and every one comments on it as they drive by. The customer service was outstanding and received personal emails in response to my questions. Would highly recommend this company and this seed mix.

This is the second year I have seeded a section of my yard with wildflower seeds. The first year I had a poor display with very few small flowers. I attributed my lack of success with poor preparation and inadequate soil preparation. So this year, I rented a tiller, prepared the soil, sowed the seeds and then rolled them and finally watered. I also doubled the quantity of seeds. While I do think I have several plants that might still produce flowers (as we have had an unusual cold spell in Chicago this season), I am very unhappy with the results thus far. I will probably commit to adult potted plants next year and forego the seeds if this doesn't work.

I tried to follow the video for fall planting. This was the first time I tilled an area in an unused pasture. I tilled it several times and it appeared to be grass and weed free. I planted in mid to late November per video instruction. This spring, I kept looking for signs of growth. No grass, no weeds and no wildflowers. Currently, I have lots of "pasture grass" with some wild flowers scattered between. I will be pulling grass as I am able because it will be choking out the wildflowers. I wish I had a seedling identification chart, so I would know what these small plants look like. I am not stopping, I may use round up next fall and start all over. I don't like using round up, but I really want to see a great wildflower pasture. I have a neighbor who is on her second year of wildflowers and they truly are gorgeous!
I also purchased wildflowers for shade, and they came up quickly and although, there are weeds there too, the wildflowers are more dominant. Thanks, I am hopeful!

Comments about American Meadows Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I bought this mix as it was highly reviewed and the description said, "This premium mixture features our famous native prairie wildflowers, and has been used by homeowners and commercial planters all over the midwest for almost 20 years." I expected it to have only flowers native to the midwest. In fact, it has very few midwestern native wildflowers, and many of the flowers in the mix are not even native to the United States or even North America. While they might be wildflowers somewhere, they are not in Missouri, which is one of the states this mix says it covers. Sure, I should have read more carefully, but if you are looking for a NATIVE wildflower mix, this is not your mix. The description should be changed as this smacks of false advertising.

I ordered Midwest Mix late and they arrived in a timely fashion, but outside the suggested planting time - quite into the summer. "What the heck!" I tossed them onto the very poor clay-with-gravel soil, stamped them in with my shoes, applied water 2 or 3 times to help Mother Nature and there was an explosion of color in surprisingly short order! The flowers totally filled the area and caused quite the wonderful sight, making it look like I had really worked hard to do it! More kept coming up all summer and into the fall. Can't wait 'til this spring. They even did OK in the grass where I threw some seed as an experiment; smaller and kinda struggling against the grass but made a nice little border. Buying more for the other area! Only one sunflower, but it was dead center, like it knew were to be! Worked perfectly with my Abandoned English Garden style of gardening.

We wanted a small wildflower meadow to use for portrait photography at our studio. The flowers are beautiful & have provided a brilliant colorful background for our images.

I had a bare spot in the side yard, but the wild flowers really spruce it up! More wild flowers are along the garage that add color to the back yard.

Comments about American Meadows Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I purchased these because I have an eroded slope on which little will grow and I don't want high maintenance. These wildflowers grew well, in profusion, all over that slope. They have lasted into the Autumn and I still have pleasure looking at them. They do not do well in partial shade. They definitely need the sun. The deer love to frolic among the blooms and this makes a pretty sight to behold but they do eat some of them. Yet, they seem to survive just fine. I got a lot of cut flowers out of this mix. The bees and butterflies loved them. I am planning on planting more of these because i would like to see the annuals again year after year. I will plant the partial shade mix for the shadier areas next time. I am thinking of extending my wildflower areas quite a lot and this was my first year trying them. I will probably need some deer resistant mix as well to keep things going, and well covered.

Zone 4, didn't plant until May 25th and still had wonderful results! A large variety of flowers, colors, and heights. The Dragonflies found our in-town meadow first, then the Bumbles, then the Butterflies, and even a couple Hummingbirds! It has been so much fun watching all the activity and the daily changes to our new "meadow" (10' x 35' area of our back yard).

I roto tilled up part of my lawn 30ft by 20ft planted it the end of March couldn't be happier. I had flowers from April till now 7ft Cosmos blooming right now. I suggest to work up the soil well one time over a yard isn't good enough 3 or 4 times over a week then plant the seeds you should have a beautiful wild flower garden. If it's dry water the area till they get established can't see why you can't have a beautiful garden. Plan on planting more next year can' wait also I'm getting a bee hive to help out the reseeding.

I tossed these in a vacant field by my workplace in the fall and forgot about them. the next spring there were beautiful flowers to admire as I walked to work.

There is not a lot of mix in there, a bit disappointing, but at least there are flowers and strong growth.

I love the way the wil flowers have filled in the gaps between our day lilies on the fence line. Makes it so much easier to mow! They have grown prolifically and love the orange and yellow flowers. Hope next year surprises us with more colors but am happy this way also! Also love the no mainence aspect of the wild flowers.

We have been trying to salvage a wildflower area planted in a public area that had become very weedy and having limited success with other seed sources. American Meadows midwest wildfower mix came very quickly after ordered and we were amazed how well it germinated after simply broadcasting the seed. We have several beautiful blooms of yellow, white, purple, and more!

                                                      USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                                      • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                                      • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
