Description
Easy-to-grow Balloon Flowers were one of grandmothers favorites. The Platycodons have been around forever, and some of their biggest fans are children. They love to watch the balloons form (the buds) and then swell each day until suddenly, one special day, the pop open. These beautiful old-fashioned flowers are lovely in the garden and fine in the vase.

Gift for my Dad. Plants started out great, but the way too hot summer in Florida proved too much. Not the product, just mother nature. Plan on buying some for myself next year.

It is a nice plant but not very large and not very spectacular. It would do better set off in clumps to give it some wow power.

Comments about Balloon Flower Astra Double Blue:

A set of three bare root specimens received from American Meadows on 3/29/11 and planted within a couple days. This second attempt may again be a dead end given my Zone 10 vs. decribed Zone 3-8 application aspect.
One initially placed at the right-front of the Rainbow's End mini-rose in the bedding area at the SW corner of the garage was relocated to behind the Camilla alstroemeria on 4/9/11.
Nothing yet seen as of June 8 2011.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
