Delicate, heart-shaped flowers that thrive in shade.
Who says you can't have bright color in the shade? The stunning Bleeding Hearts literally light up shady areas with their elegant long stems and famous heart-shaped flowers. There are two basic types, the larger ones (to 30") with arching stems that bloom in spring, and the smaller "fernleaf" types that keep blooming all summer. However they're used, the Bleeding Hearts make fantastic companion plants for ferns, hostas, and other shade-lovers. What's more, they're easy to grow, and dependably perennial.
