The milkweed family of North American plants is named Asclepias after Asclepias, the famous Greek God of Medicine, since the plants have long been used in herbal medicine.
This Asclepias, with its glowing red flowerheads, is best placed in a wet spot, or at least one that is wet part of the year, since that is its native habitat.

Perfect Plant for Butterfly "growing"
This plant is hardy and the only plant that Monarchs lay eggs on. Last year I "grew" my own butterflies:)

I received this plant as a gift purchased by my daughter specifically because it was shown on the website as pink. It has very pure white flowers which while pretty, do not really fit into my overall color scheme/layout in the garden. I am extremely disappointed.

Comments about American Meadows Butterfly Weed Cinderella:
I ordered 9 plants; planted 6 and gave 3 away. None of my 6 ever bloomed, but I planted in early May and may not have provided enough water. Huge number of yellow aphids -- have never seen yellow aphids here before, and I couldn't get rid of them (tried blasting with water, and hand rubbing them off the plants -- they just kept coming back). Maybe I didn't do enough for them, or maybe they are difficult plants to maintain???

Supposed to be Pink
from Benicia, CA
These were supposed to bloom pink. Only 1 plant actually sprouted a bloom, and it was white. These were soon covered in ahpids, but the plants weren't bothered or harmed. Hopefully they will overwinter ok and be better next year.
Arrived well packaged; all grew
None of them ever budded but I think that is because I got them in the ground late and we had a very dry summer. I'll remember that next year and get them in much earlier. Horrible attack of yellow aphids -- never have seen them before I got this butterfly weed.

The monarchs are all over it when it's time, it's fun to raise them, please help our Monarchs and plant this fine plant. Monarchwatch.com... a great site for information to help our butterflies

Disappointed expected pink Cinderella butterfly weed plants, instead they all have white flowers. Not going to order again. Can't trust that Meadows will send plant material

Just starting to revamp an old farm house and the property around it. Planted it in several areas and it did very well under different conditions. Looking forward to moving it to the back of a border where it will stand out in the mass.

The orange butterfly weed grows wild here, it is absolutely beautiful. I can just imagine the red, yellow and orange all grouped together. I bet it would be a wonderful site in my rock gardens.
