Description
Burgundy is one of the super-successful newer Gaillardia hybrids that emphasizes the red in the native blooms. This one gives a garden a deep richness in color, and still retains the species famous long season of bloom. Burgundy is a beauty.

The Gaillardias are one of the great glories of American wildflowers, carpeting whole landscapes to the horizon in the plains states and the west. The natives are the famous yellow and white pinwheel bi-colors. In our wildflower seed department, we sell the much-loved annual, Indian Blanket, and the native perennial as well, G. aristata, often called Blanket Flower.

But hybridizers are always anxious to improve native plants, no matter how beautiful they may be. And in this case, they have. Goblin is one of the oldest, and still probably the most popular hybrid, with very large flowers and a long bloom season.

Many other newer hybrids emphasize one color or the other--the red or the yellow. And in very recent years, even the flower form has changed. With Fanfare, we were introduced to Gaillardias with tubular ray petals, each one a miniature flaring trumpet. Now that form is expanded with the exciting new Commotion group. And the stunning new Dakota Reveille has turned the whole flower into a fluffy ball of petals.

All are great garden perennials, tough as oaks, great for color, and as dependable as they come.

Comments about American Meadows Gaillardia aristata Burgundy - Plant:

erroneously put this in an area with too much shade; moved it and it's doing great--should be gorgeous next year. Beautiful contrast to the oranges and lemons gaillardia next to it. No problem with the TX heat and extra heat and dry along a driveway. It's a winner!

Comments about American Meadows Gaillardia aristata Burgundy - Plant:

as with all plants, the key is location, location, location! it's in a sunny spot next to a driveway; loves the Texas heat as long as it's watered moderately. Have this next to Lemons and Oranges Gaillardia, so the colors make a great contrast. Simple occasional deadheading keeps the blooms coming. this is just first year, so have great expectations for next year!

I planted 3 last year. Two have taken off and have constant copious flowers, attracting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The third is green and living, but hasn't yet flowered, not sure why.

Comments about American Meadows Gaillardia aristata Burgundy - Plant:

I am new on a farm that has sandy soil and many deer. I have several new flower plots around my farm. I was excited to see how well the Burgundy Gaillardia fit in the newest plot with some of my wildflowers. Thank you for the healthy plant you sent. I have tried other online garden catalogs, but always come back to American Meadows for quality, advice and good service.

Comments about American Meadows Gaillardia aristata Burgundy - Plant:

I couldn't find Gaillardia at my local garden center so I looked online. Seemed like every site had just the yellow/orange variety. I was so excited to find the Burgundy on your site. I purchased one and it has really added a lot of color to my patio continer garden. It's become a little bedraggled during the hot Arizona summer, but still producing blooms.
