Plant Information

Everybody loves Hollyhocks--tall beauties that create tremendous color wherever they grow. They quickly create spires of flowers up to 5 or 6 feet. Hollyhocks are great for the back of the border, and also as a blooming screen for unsightly views or other things you'd like to hide with beautiful flowers all summer long.

These old-fashioned plants are famous for being biennial which means they bloom their second year from seed.

About Me Getting Started

Comments about American Meadows Hollyhock Peaches n Dreams:

I bought TEN of these and lined them against a white fence in my backyard - was SO excited to see tall, peach fluffiness all summer and then (fingers crossed) each year after that. It never happened. I don't think the greenery passed 1-2 feet and then nothing progressed. This was really sad for me, as other people mentioned how easy hollyhocks are to grow and often reseed themselves. I had seen multiple neighbors with hollyhocks, which is why I bought them in the first place - I knew they'd grow well in our area. At least I thought they would... :(

Comments about American Meadows Hollyhock Peaches n Dreams:

I am using these to hide the side foundation of the house. They were very new last year so they didn't do much. This spring they are already up about a foot. One of the 3 died.

    USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

    • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
    • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
