USDA Plant Hardiness Zones

To help gardeners understand which plants will grow well for them, the entire USA has been segmented into ‘Plant Hardiness Zones’. Knowing your zone number is helpful when shopping for plants because:

  • Cold-area gardeners can avoid buying plants that simply won’t survive their lowest winter temperatures.
  • Warm-area gardeners can steer clear of plants that need a period of cold weather in order to bloom again.

Plant Information

Vining Honeysuckle is well-suited to moist locations with average soils, and prefers full sun for at least half the day. Give this fast grower a trellis or support structure to climb and it will cover a 12 x 12' area with ease. You can also use Honeysuckle vine as a running groundcover, which is a beautiful solution for hard-to-reach areas and steep declines. Keeps blooming all summer long and overwinters reliably.

Comments about American Meadows Honeysuckle Vine Mint Crisp:

The plant was very tiny and did not progress quickly. We will see how it does in the spring if it survives the Pennsylvania winter.

Comments about American Meadows Honeysuckle Vine Mint Crisp:

The plant I received was small but healthy. I planted it near a fence where it could ramble. It started out growing great until one day I noticed that the rabbits had eaten it almost to ground level. I thought it was a gonner but a few weeks latter I saw it was growing again. It is now growing up the fence and I cannot waite until next year to see it bloom.

                Q & A

                Plant With These:

                USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
