Our Master Gardeners Suggest Pairing With:
Wisteria macrostachya, sometimes commonly called Kentucky wisteria, is a deciduous vine that is native to the south-central U.S. Like its cousin American wisteria (Wisteria frutescens), it is less aggressive and more manageable than the Chinese and Japanese wisterias, making it a good choice for home gardeners. Blue Moon is especially winter hardy and will produce flowers even in zones 3 and 4. The vine grows 15' to 25’ long and blooms in June, with occasional flushes of blooms later in the summer. The 6" to 12” long flower clusters are made up of fragrant, pea-like, blue flowers, followed by 4" long, velvety seedpods. Grow in full sun on a very sturdy arbor, pergola or other support.
