Chose this & Christmas Ferns because they're on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service "Native Plants for Wildlife Habitat and Conservation Landscaping: Chesapeake Bay Watershed" list. Planting in a wooded spot in the garden that backs up to a parking lot. Only saying 4 stars now since they've just started - will let you know how well they take in the long run....

Comments about American Meadows Lady Fern:

It was planted near other ferns so received the same care as those. It hardly grew at all. Will be replacing it this fall when it gets cooler. I was very disappointed in the plant's performance.

I bought 5 of these ferns, and they came as small plants. The packaging was perfect for them and none were damaged in transport. One seemingly "died back" shortly after transplanting, but it grew back in a few weeks. All 5 ferns look wonderful and are growing great!

Comments about American Meadows Lady Fern:

I ordered the Lady Fern last October. They came as
bareroots so I planted them and waited for their
Spring arrival. I was walking in the yard the other
day and was delighted to see the red stems had popped
up baring lime green leaves. Plants look very health
and are doing well. Despite a drought in the area.
I was very happy with the delivery and packaging of
                  this product.

                  USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
