Description
Our photo doesn't show it, but this elegant grass has fine, arching white-and-green variegated leaves of great beauty, giving the whole plant a silvery appearance. Introduced from Japan in 1976, this grass is now considered the best of the Miscanthus group, and a stunning specimen plant for garden or meadow.

The elegant reddish plumes (which dry for arrangements to a creamy white) appear in September or October, adding great drama to the fall landscape.

About Miscanthus hybrids: Our friend, Jack Scheper, the plant expert who runs Floridata.com, tell us that there are now hundreds of cultivars of this handsome grass. He says What they have in common are a clump forming habit (never forming turf), in which the leaves grow up, then cascade out and down like a fountain; foliage that turns various shades of gold or bronze in autumn and holds up well throughout the winter; erect flowers that shine in the summer sun, then turn soft and fluffy in winter, and persist beautifully in dried arrangements; and a preference for sunny positions in the landscape.
