Our photo doesn't show it, but this elegant grass has fine, arching white-and-green variegated leaves of great beauty, giving the whole plant a silvery appearance. Introduced from Japan in 1976, this grass is now considered the best of the Miscanthus group, and a stunning specimen plant for garden or meadow.
The elegant reddish plumes (which dry for arrangements to a creamy white) appear in September or October, adding great drama to the fall landscape.

He says What they have in common are a clump forming habit (never forming turf), in which the leaves grow up, then cascade out and down like a fountain; foliage that turns various shades of gold or bronze in autumn and holds up well throughout the winter; erect flowers that shine in the summer sun, then turn soft and fluffy in winter, and persist beautifully in dried arrangements; and a preference for sunny positions in the landscape.
