Not a true grass, but actually a member of the lily family sometimes called Lilyturf or Monkey Grass, Liriope is a wonderful dense groundcover under trees and shrubs. Flower spikes of purple bloom in mid-summer. This cultivar, Silvery Sunproof grows only 12-15 inches tall, and has leaves that are striped green and yellow. This is a great plant for adding interest and colorful bloom in both filtered sun or shade.

Comments about American Meadows Monkey Grass Silvery Sunproof:

This is the second year and still very little is showing above ground, only about an inch. They just aren't growing. They aren't dead, there is new growth but they should be fully spread by now. They never flowered.

    USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

    • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
    • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
