Comments about American Meadows Hardy Pampas Grass Erianthus:

Be careful with this grass - it's Ravenna Grass. I bought it not realizing that it's not just a "big, hardy Pampas," it's actually considered an invasive in my area. The Noxious Weed Control Board (didn't even realize there WAS a Noxious Weed Control Board until they showed up with clipboards, cameras, and business cards) ordered me to destroy them b/c they're considered highly invasive in my state.

That said, the website states the latin name, but I didn't realize it's not really a pampas. The "weed lady" gave me quite the rundown on the myriad ways in which it's different. I believe the website should be updated to note this, as "variety of pampas" is confusing. "Ravenna Grass" along with the latin name would be helpful. I probably would have purchased it anyway, though, not knowing it was an invasive in my area.

GORGEOUS plant, nice and tall, beautiful rustling sound in the wind, and very, very, very hard to kill, as I discovered. :)

Do yourself a favor and research invasives in your area before purchasing this. I think it should not be allowed to be shipped to WA b/c it's considered invasive here.

Comments about American Meadows Hardy Pampas Grass Erianthus:

The plants arrived in nice packaging, with almost no dirt. Two of the plants were dead on arrival, the other parched and dried plants soon followed. Money was spent for two plants to survive < 1 week. I was shocked that this was what arrived. Total waste. Disappointing does not cover it.

Comments about American Meadows Hardy Pampas Grass Erianthus:

I received 5 tiny pampas grass plants. They were so small that they hardly survived being transplanted to a pot; would not have made it in the ground. After some growth in the pots, only one plant survived well enough to plant. Would not recommend.

Upon receiving the plant was dead. When I called about it I was quickly offered to either replace or refund. I opted to replace and it is now growing just fine.

                  USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
