Potentilla Monarchs Velvet

The blooms on this striking Potentilla are a rich red with darker centers and contrast nicely with the pretty green foliage; also called Cinquefoil. (Potentilla thunberi)

Description
The beautiful Potentillas (or Cinquefoils) are a great group of color makers for perennial borders. They're small bushy (only about 18" tall) members of the rose family, and if you look closely, you'll see the five-petaled blooms resemble a small wild rose. Even though these are herbaceous perennials, their growth habit is somewhat shrub-like, with semi-woody stems. This makes them tough plants that are loved by many gardeners. Also, romantics like the fact that the flower petals are perfect hearts.

        Comments about Potentilla Monarchs Velvet:

Easy to plant. mixed peat and garden soil, and watered. Small white leaves (from mailing) turned green the next day. I have had the plant only a short time, but it is thriving and will have plenty of time to establish itself before winter. It is tiny and will not bloom for a year or two. root cuttings split in shipping so I have more than the 3 promised plants. As usual, very satisfied with American Meadows.
