Description
Gibson's Scarlet one-ups most of the other Potentilla hybrids with its red red flowers. Also, the foliage is particularly beautiful in deep green.

The beautiful Potentillas (or Cinquefoils) are a great group of color makers for perennial borders. They're small bushy (only about 18" tall) members of the rose family, and if you look closely, you'll see the five-petaled blooms resemble a small wild rose. Even though these are herbaceous perennials, their growth habit is somewhat shrub-like, with semi-woody stems. This makes them tough plants that are loved by many gardeners. Also, romantics like the fact that the flower petals are perfect hearts.

      I've ordered this plant two years in a row. First year: no growth. Second year, some growth but only for a short period of time. Very disappointing.

        Not sure what I did wrong with this one. When I first planted it and began watering it, it doubled in size within a few days, then tripled.. But soon after, it shrivelled up and disappeared. :( I was really looking forward to seeing the blooms, but I didn't even get close. I don't know if I planted it in a bad spot or didn't water it enough, or watered it too much? I don't know...
