Description
The Elderberries, Sambucus spp., have always been giant, white-flowering natives with blooms much like Queen Anne's Lace. There is one main species in North America, and another in Europe, both very tall plants. As often happens, the Europeans have made something very special from something very common, with an incredible new hybrid of their species, named Black Lace. This is a spectacular 8 ft. plant with dark maroon foliage, which you might confuse with a very finely-cut Japanese maple. But then, once you see the stunning pink flowers, you'd know this is something else again! This new plant will create a big exotic show in your yard! Be the first in the neighborhood to have one. (By the way, the birds love the berries that follow the bloom.)

Comments about Elderberry Black Lace:

The plant I received in fall 2011 had two small canes, one of which was broken in shipment 1/2 way down. As of 3/28/2012, the unbroken cane has new growth, the second one has none. I hope once the weather warms up it'll send up more shoots and become a big bushy plant.
