Plant Information

The world-famous New England Aster is the one every wildflower gardener wants. (Novae-Angliae means New England in Latin.) The native grows to about 3 ft. with large, blue/purple bloom, and is the perfect late-season color maker in meadows. Even the native version covers itself in flowers for weeks, when almost everything else in the meadow is finished blooming. These magnificent plants make up the last hurrah for any good wildflower meadow.

This hybrid is even more useful than the somewhat rangy native version. With full, bushy plants, larger flowers, and a height of only up to 20 inches tall. A great plant!

I bought these last year. Such beautiful, healthy and well-packaged plants. Love this company.
Note: New England Asters are late blooming. I live in MN, they survive winters.

I planted these in May or June. They have grown nicely, and started to bloom in September. Now in October they are covered in flowers. I look forward to seeing what they can do in the second year of growth.

Comments about American Meadows Aster Purple Dome:

I'm using Purple Dome as a border plant in a large, semicircle bed and along a walkway to provide color when other flowers are fading. It spreads well and flowers vigorously. Best of all, I watched a deer sniff one and then move away.

Comments about American Meadows Aster Purple Dome:

I would still cut this back in late spring and give it room to grow. If it has to compete with other plants it will grow taller.
I bought six last year and they have all done well. It is certainly not a dwarf, but is smaller and sturdier than the typical New England Aster.

Comments about American Meadows Aster Purple Dome:

I bought these bulbs for by 96 year old grandmother who loves to garden. She is affectionately known in her small community as "the flower lady" and she has high expectations for her flowers. After a gentleman accidentally cut her flowers, I knew I had to act fast to keep my grandmother happy. I found your company on the web and I could not be happier with the results. Delivery was fast and my grandmother was happy...so I am happy.
                    Thank you,
                    Jason

I've currently got this Aster in a pot and I don't have any flowers yet. Being an Aster I don't expect them until Fall anyway. It arrived looking great and appears to be growing nicely.

                        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
