Comments about American Meadows Butterfly Garden 10' x 4':
This was my first order from American Meadows, so I didn't know quite what to expect. When I received the order, I was surprised at the condition of the plants. They didn't look vibrant and I questioned if they would survive. I planted them and was pleasantly surprised at how they took off. After a month, I had 5-6 plants that had not survived, so I contacted American Meadows and they immediately sent out replacements which I received within a week. Of those, all have survived and thrived except for one plant. The coneflowers, bellflowers and black-eyed susans are in bloom right now and even one of the lilies bloomed this year, which surprised me since this is the first year. The Russian Sage has gone crazy and is the only plant I'm not "thrilled" with. It is heavy and droops and just looks unsightly. I will give it another year and will consider tieing it up to make it more presentable. It has a wonderful scent. The peony grew well the first few months but seems to be stalled out and I'm anxious to see how it grows next spring. I haven't seen butterflies in the garden yet, but I hope in year 2 there will be more as the plants are more established.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
