A big bonus is that these blooms are magnets for hummingbirds, and once your vine is growing and blooming, you'll see them regularly. Honeysuckle vines, when happy in a moist location with full sun will cover a trellis or wall of up to 144 sq. ft. (12 x 12). If you don't have a trellis, Major Wheeler makes a beautiful running ground cover or shrub-like mound with its dense production of beautiful deep green leaves and lots of brilliant red flowers. Keeps blooming all summer long.

About Me Casual Hobbyist
Comments about American Meadows Honeysuckle Vine Major Wheeler:
Planted along a fence line, and it completely failed. No growth. Mostly dried up. Other honeysuckle from a local nursery did very well with the same effort and care. Just not the right plant for me.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Disappointed in lack of blossoms

The plant grew very well on a trellis but was disappointed that I got only one very short-lived blossom.

Planted under a trellis, I was hoping for some fragrance this year. Perhaps it takes more than a year for these to establish. If they return next year, ask again. There's still hope.
Love Love This Vine....

About Me Avid Gardener
One of the brightest and prettiest vines in my yard. I had purchased 2 and then went back and purchased 2 more. I'm almost ready to cut down 2 different Honeysuckle vines and get 2 more of the Honeysuckle Vine Major Wheeler. I have 80 feet of back fence to cover and 50 feet of it is covered by Major Wheeler.

Very vigorous climber!
By butterfly lover
from Portsmouth, VA
Plant grew so fast you could watch it go up the trellis as you were standing in front of it:-) Grew from 6" to 6' first year. Wanted something for butterfly/hummingbird garden and this fit the bill perfectly. Didn't get any blooms this year, but expect it will bloom beautifully next season. Used it in a bed with yarrow, echinacea and butterfly weed. Filled up the vertical space very quickly. Very impressed with my Major Wheeler.

Doesn't take long for this vine to take off...just give it a base to grow on! Flowers start in April and go the entire flowering season...will want to trim back so it does not take over....Let ours grow up an old clothesline pole...Hummers love it...

Very fast grower
from Basye, VA
This vine began sending up new shoots as soon as it came out of the box, even better I could get it planted! Can't wait to see how it performs when it gets big enough to bloom.
