Description
These are the garden columbines. Like the Russell Lupines and other definitive groups of perennials, the McKana Columbines have never been surpassed. With clear, bright-colored flowers, these are sizable plants, growing up to 32" or more. Their show in the garden can be truly spectacular. These famous flowers were bred by combining both the North American native columbines with others from abroad. The McKanas include the famous all-red Crimson Star, a major hummingbird plant, and some of the unique fully-double hybrids.

The Wild Columbines Many people think columbines are the loveliest flowers of all, and they are certainly important in the wildflower world. Many important species are North American natives. Everyone in the Northeast loves the Wild Eastern Columbine, the beautiful smallish red one, Aquilegia canadensis, and of course, everyone in the Rockies loves the State Flower of Colorado, the large, blue Colorado Columbine, A. caerulea. There are important species native to Europe and Japan as well.

Comments about American Meadows Columbine McKana's Giant Mix:

Used around my garden to help with pollination, but also to deter deer, which sadly, it did not do. Very pretty! I would only recommend for looks.

Comments about American Meadows Columbine McKana's Giant Mix:

Only 4 out of 12 started growing. Contacted American Meadows who replaced them right away, no questions asked. I planted these all in pots. In each pot only the yellows came up and so far only 2 have bloomed. The other originals were a mushy mess. Not sure if the replacements will come up or not. I've never grown Columbine before but the pictures of the flowers are beautiful. The yellow flowers are beautiful but much smaller than I expected and the plants are delicate and spindley. After planting I realize these are hard to grow. Guess I will do more research next time.

I ordered 12 plants, only half of them came up. The two that did bloom had lovely flowers, one per plant. I am disappointed in this product.

Easy to get going right away in my shady garden on edge of forest. Waiting to see them come back next year. They bloom before most of the other summer perrenials.

almost gave just 3 stars, but not fair since our Summer was so rainy! maybe in a better Summer it would have done better. My wild ones did much better. Would not recommend for a wet area but think it would be great in a drier place.

Lovely variety of colors. They brighten an area of the garden that has little other color at that time of spring. They are in a sunny, well drained area, and the foilage is enjoyable even after the flowers are gone.
