The Lamiums are called by the somewhat alarming name, Dead Nettle, but that means only this amazing little plant is related to stinging nettle (a rough weed) and doesn't sting...so being a dead nettle is a good thing.

The strange name aside, these short plants(6-10 high), when well grown, can add glistening sheets of color to shady areas were color may be missing. Plant them with Hostas, Bleeding Hearts, and other shade-lovers. They cover the ground so completely they smother out any invading weeds.

Comments about American Meadows Lamium Pink Pewter - 3" Pot:

I'm surprised that mine are still somewhat alive. I barely water them and they are planted underneath large pine trees at its base. I bought a box from American Meadows and another box from my local nursery. The one from the local nursery is also planted under a pine tree but gets more water than the one from AM, so it's growing much faster and bigger. I guess you could say these plants are pretty drought tolerant but for best results they like water!

Comments about American Meadows Lamium Pink Pewter - 3" Pot:

Beautiful healthy plants, but they are having a hard time getting established. Conditions have been hot and dry so the plants need extra attention.

I love that this grows in shade, kills off weeds and weathers an extreme winter! It is super low maintenance and loves the shade but tolerates some sun!

      USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

      • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
      • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
