Lily of the Valley is the super-hardy, highly scented early spring plant that makes a lovely green mat in any moist shady spot, spreading every year. The foliage is sort of like a solid green miniature Hosta, and you know the flowers. One of the great things about Lily of the Valley is the way the foliage stays rich and green all summer long. This famous garden perennial is actually a native North American woodland wildflower. If you've never seen them before, don't be shocked by the tiny roots called pips. They're supposed to be that small, and are a snap to grow.

Comments about American Meadows Lily of the Valley:

Out of the 18 plants I put in, only 3 seem to have survived. I did not see any signs of disease or pests, and the plants appeared healthy upon receipt. Maybe there will be more in the spring, but I would proceed with caution if thinking of purchasing these.

Comments about American Meadows Lily of the Valley:

I've had good experiences with other products from American Meadows, but I purchased these lily of the valley plants to cover a patch of my yard and they didn't take well. The plants didn't die--they have kept their leaves and are still providing groundcover. But none flowered and not even the leaves proliferated much.

Not sure what the problem is--both my neighbors have lily of the valley as ground cover and seems to do quite well.

Comments about American Meadows Lily of the Valley:

Terribly disappointed in this purchase. Very few, tiny tiny pips in each bag. Clumps too small to separate. After careful soil preparation and planting, absolutely nothing has grown.

The failure of these was probably due more to the soil situation (very rocky) than anything else. Not one of them grew. :(

I ordered 2-15 packs of Lilly of the Valley pips. there were approximately 5 pips in each package. Extremely disappointed.

I love your plants, they are packed to perfection and the roots are so healthy. I planted 15 Lily of the Valley a few weeks ago and they are already 4" tall. Great slips! I soaked them in water while I was planting them. I don't expect them to bloom this year, but will look forward to seeing them next year. I just received 6 other plants and they are just as expected "perfect". I need to make a bed for them at the foot of a garden raised bed. But will get that done in a few days. Your plants are even better than what I have received from a nursery that is closer to my area! Great work!

Again, lots of green but no blooms. Maybe the dry weather contributed to that and hopefully next year.

                            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
