Low-maintenance groundcover to use under trees or in place of lawn.
Widely used as a groundcover, evergreen vinca forms low-growing mounds with trailing stems that spread rapidly to fill in an area. Adaptable to a wide range of conditions, vinca is one of the few groundcovers that will thrive in both full sun and shade. In spring, pretty blue, phlox-like flowers appear. Use it under trees or on slopes to stabilize soil and prevent erosion. Sometimes called periwinkle or creeping myrtle, vinca is a fast-spreading plant that can become invasive, but it's a workhorse of a groundcover in contained areas of the garden.
