Comments about American Meadows Switchgrass Northwind:

I am very happy with the 15 plants I received in April. I managed to keep 12 alive. It has been about 5-6 months. I kept them watered in part shade in pots for 2 weeks before planting. After I planted them, I watered daily for the first week.
    - The 3 I planted in fertile soil in full sun are 3 feet tall after 6 months. I watered weekly if we didn't get rain.
    - I planted 3 in terrible soil, full sun, didn't water as much since the sprinkler doesn't reach them easily. Two of the five survived and are about 2 feet tall.
    - I planted nine in medium soil in full sun/part sun, watered weekly if we didn't get rain. The bed is full of other shrubs/plants. Two that were crowded by other plants did not survive. I take responsibility for those. Four of them are 3-4 feet tall, the rest are close to other plants and are about a foot and looking good.

They add height, they are very upright so they don't take up much space. Looking at their full size on the website, they will stay upright and not too wide. I'm excited to watch them grow and to see how they look in the winter.

Comments about American Meadows Switchgrass Northwind:

This is a really nice grass. I bought two from American Meadows and two from a different company this spring. The other company (at similar price point) had a better product that is currently twice the size of the grass from American Meadows.

        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
