Description
My Monet is well-named. The leaves here are small, and begin pinkish, but then evolve to green with cream colored edges. Meanwhile, the blooms are a beautiful pink--a Monet-style garden on one neat plant! Why Weigelas are some of the most popular shrubs in the US: Not only hummingbirds and butterflies love these shrubs; gardeners do too. And there are good reasons. In addition to its spectacular bloom in late spring and early summer and its handsome foliage all season long, plant expert Tim Wood says it best, Adaptable to many soil types, its hardy to USDA zone 4 and has no serious pest problems. Its easy to propagate, easy to grow and presents itself well in a container. In a word, its reliable! The only requirement of this plant is that it requires full sun to produce copious flowers. The problem with Weigela is deciding which cultivar to grow, with over 80 to choose from! During its flowering season, its a bloom machine!

Comments about Weigela My Monet:

If I wasn't so enchanted by the beautiful variegated foliage and promise of pink blooms, I probably wouldn't bother with this hard to find weigela. When I opened the box I was very disappointed with the size. It was this small twiggy fragile looking sprig about 5"x4" with some sparse tiny leaves. One of the two I received was very lopsided and laid over so that it appeared to be a trailing plant or "subulata". Afraid they would die if planted directly in the ground, I put them in 1 gal. pots with potting mix in partial shade & later full sun. Over a year later they are just starting to fill out the pots and have yet to bloom.
