Popular mild flavored mustard gives you harvests in two ways--as a vegetable alone like spinach, and for salads, too.

Zones 1 - 10

Plant Information

"Tendergreen" is a favorite "mild-flavored" mustard green. It grows super-fast and is ready for the table in no time.

When and Where to Plant: Select sunny location and sow seed as soon as the ground can be worked. Cultivate soil and enrich with vegetable food. Firm soil over seed. Repeat at 2 week intervals. In mild winter areas plant in fall and winter.
Care: Keep soil moist, weed free and fertilize lightly every 3-4 weeks.
Harvesting: For best flavor, cut leaves before full grown, (salads 3-4”/8- 10 cm.) leaving the growing tip to produce replacements.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
