"Lutz Greenleaf" Beets, known for decorative foliage, are great in flower gardens. Tops for summer salads; roots for fall.

Size Packet +/- 239 seeds
SKU 2BEET
"Lutz Greenleaf" Beets are known for decorative foliage, which makes them great for planting in pots and flower gardens. Young tops make great salads, too; just cut as you need greens. Then harvest roots in fall.

When and Where to Plant: Select a sunny, well drained location and sow seed as soon as the ground can be worked. Repeat at 3 week intervals until late summer. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Great in containers and sunny flower beds. Firm soil over seed and keep moist.
Care: Keep soil moist, weed free, and apply vegetable food every 4 weeks.
Harvesting: Pull individual plants when roots are about 2"/5 cm. across.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
