SKU 5BEANG
Named after a lake in California, this one is the classic "green bean" everybody loves. Sunset magazine staged a taste test back in 1994 asking "Is Blue Lake still the best-tasting bean? And 4 out of their 5 tasters said enthusiastically, "Yes!" Blue Lake is still the champ today, and these seeds of the bush variety makes growing them super-simple.

When and Where to Plant: Select sunny location and plant when all danger of frost is past and the soil has warmed. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist. Plant bush types every 3 weeks.
Care:
Harvesting: Pick regularly when pods are 4-6"/10-15 cm, before sides bulge.

Comments about American Meadows Bush Blue Lake Green Bean Seeds:

I love green beans and typically eat them right off the vine. This year, the weather was unpredictable yet these green beans grew all summer long. I was able to serve fresh green beans to my family each week. They were deliciously sweet so they could be used raw in salads or steamed for a light supper meal. I even put them in my daughter's lunch for a crunchy, sweet snack. They are also wonderful dried!

I was very pleased with this product. It weathered the entire summer's confusing atmospheric changes to produce time and time again.

        Not a single bean!!!

Comments about American Meadows Bush Blue Lake Green Bean Seeds:

These plants grew tall and strong- covered in flowers... but not a single bean- EVER!! I waited all summer long but they did not produce at all. I live in TN and had success with other bean varieties the same year. It was the only dud in my garden!

They're great and produce a lot.

Comments about American Meadows Bush Blue Lake Green Bean Seeds:

The beans I bought from you (above) produced and produced.
I picked them when slender because they seemed sweeter and
my family took them to work and ate them raw for lunch. I'm in
an apartment where vegetable gardeners share the crops.
There are several above ground and boxed squares or a
rectangle or two spaced apart for easy access. I'm 81 and
walk, climb stairs so that helped with the bending!!! MBanach

        Not for Southeast Alaska

        By

from Prince of Wales Island, Alaska

Comments about American Meadows Bush Blue Lake Green Bean Seeds:

Not a bean after 4 months. Planted 2 doz. plants. Beautiful plants, just flowers, no beans. I thought I'd give it a go, and now I see that its not meant to be planted outside in my area (southeast Alaska). I won't be planting this again.

        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
