The famous smooth white variety from France, "Snowball" gives you bright white 7" heads by midsummer.

Zones 1 - 10

Plant Information

"Snowball" is the cauliflower to grow. It's dependable, and has heads ready to harvest earlier than others. Beautiful 7" heads are smooth and snow white, great for all your best recipes--hot or cold, plain or fancy.

When and Where to Plant: For earliest harvest start indoors 4-5 weeks before last frost or sow seeds outdoors in early spring. Set plants out at time of last frost. For a fall crop start seeds July to August. Select a sunny location with fertile soil, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist.
Care: Keep soil moist, weed free and feed every 4-6 weeks. If you did not plant a self-blanching variety, protect developing heads from sun by tying leaves over them..
Harvesting: Cut just below head when buds are still white and firm.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
