Plant Information

This unique variety is super-popular since it produces long, crispy-sweet fruits with a delicious flavor that are easier to digest than some. And its famous thin skin makes peeling unnecessary. A great home garden cucumber.

When and Where to Plant: Select a sunny, well drained location and sow seed in the late spring when the soil is warm and all danger of frost is past. For earlier crop start indoors 4-6 weeks before setting out. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist. Plant in rows to facilitate trellising.
Care: Keep soil moist, and feed monthly. Tie vines on a trellis to save space and assure development of long straight fruits..
Harvesting: Harvest regularly when 8-12"/20-30 cm. long.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
