"Red Salad Bowl: Red Oakleaf" is a deeply-lobed variety with burgundy color and a bronze sheen. Slow to bolt. Grow as babyleaf or full-size leaf lettuce.
When and Where to Plant: Hardy Annual. For salad mix direct sow as soon as soil can be worked, throughout summer and early fall. Planting depth is 1/8", 60 seeds/ ft in rows 12-18” apart. Has difficulty germinating in soil above 75°F. Sow every 3 weeks for a continuous supply. For full size heads either direct sow 3 seeds every 8”, in rows 12”-18” thinning later to one seedling per group. Transplants can be started 3-4 weeks before planting date. Shade if necessary to keep soil below 75ºF. Harvest at desired head size.
