Description
Probably the world’s most popular wildflower, red poppy is also called Corn Poppy, American Legion Poppy, and Flanders Poppy. A Reverend Wilks in Shirley,England, developed what is known today as “Shirley Poppies” from selecting specimens of this species from the wild. His work resulted in this broad mix of colors and single/double flower forms. Most wildflower gardeners prefer this mixture (red, pink, white, single, double, even “picotee” bicolors) of colors for their poppies over the solid red basic species. See P. rhoeas, Red Poppy (all red).

Comments about American Meadows Mixed Red Poppy Seeds:

these grew and bloomed just about everywhere i tossed the seeds. i bought a pound and literally "went to town" sprinkling them like fairy dust in vacant lots, ditches, even gravel! one particularly large and profuse blooming specimen seemed to like growing out of a crack in the sidewalk. i couldn't be more pleased.

Comments about American Meadows Mixed Red Poppy Seeds:

I live in Zone 7 (Texas) and put out the seeds in the fall. I covered them with a very thin layer of peat moss and watered them for a week or so. I don't think the watering did anything, because it wasn't until late March/early April when there seemed to be the first sign of life. From then on, however, (and with regular watering as we had practically no rain this Spring), the poppies began to grow like wild and from about May on, they were blooming (they are still blooming). Beautiful range of colors, big blooms, lots of blooms, just stunning ... They flower at the same time as my Larspurs (see my feedback for them) and put on a lovely show! I'm not sure that the germination rate was superb (I bought a pound I think and I don't have millions of blooms), but my garden is covered in lots of blooms and I'm very happy with the outcome.

Comments about American Meadows Mixed Red Poppy Seeds:

I had these in several flower beds. I threw down a lot of them not expecting a good germination rate. Wow, was I wrong. They had a extremely high success rate. I had solid poppies, all colors. I love poppies of all kinds and they were just absolutely fantastic. I had thousands in a multitude of colors. I took so many pictures. If you like poppies you really must buy these. I so regret the comment the lady made that brought the review rate down. Soil condition or something else must have affected her seeds. These seeds definitely deserve above a 5 star rating. I just threw mine down and they grew. No muss no fuss just pure enjoyment. Everyone who saw them was mesmerized. Each one had breathtaking beauty.

Comments about American Meadows Mixed Red Poppy Seeds:

I followed all of the instructions provided by American Meadows, who responded in a timely manner to my e-mail of questions before I ordered. However, out of 1/4 pound of seed, I only had 8 flowering plants. The germination was about 50%, but only those few matured. However, I planted some cosmos seeds I had left from the year before(also from American Meadows) at the same time and those are still blooming like champs. I think poppies are just pickier. But, I will try again next year.
